Calverley - Planning Applications, Highways, Bridleways etc
People who have lived in the village for a number of years will be familiar with Calverley Residents Action Group "CRAG". The original action group formed in 1975 to prevent a road from being built through Calverley Woods and was very successful in its aim to prevent building over "green areas".
Over recent years it has become apparent that there are areas in Calverley that are prime locations for building. It would appear that a significant development is to be built close to Calverley that will have a major impact not only on access to the village, but possibly on village life in general.
Listed below are links to pages on the Leeds City Council Website that contain maps of information relating to Calverley. The main Calverley information is on map 14, but map 20 also contains Calverley information.
There are housing sites that are being considered in Calverley (planning permission on this land is being reviewed).
If you have any comments regarding the land or the proposed change of use, please complete the online form which is here
Resident Initiative 1
David Gracey is a Calverley resident who has provided the following information:
"After speaking with many residents from Carr Hill Road(s), Crowther Avenue and Ravenscliffe Road, I am not satisfied that enough action has been put in place to deal with the rush hour rat runners. I have heard many horror stories about speeding drivers, texting drivers and aggressive drivers all rushing through 'access only' roads for their own convenience. I have spoken with many people who have been writing to our council/MP for years and it still goes on. I am proposing a community action group is set up to deal with the issue. I would welcome anyone who has any ideas or would like to become involved to contact me on d.w.gracey@gmail.com or call me on 07923643546 David Gracey"

Calverley Connections
Many people have their favourite places in Calverley and some people have been kind enough to share their thoughts...

Picture from http://yorkshirecdbooks.com/Yorksview/calverley/
"I really enjoy walking past Victoria Park on a summer's day and seeing the cricketers on the cricket ground. The cricket pavilion always looks to be a hive of activity. I often stop just to hear the sound of the bat when it hits the ball really hard, and the shouts and cheers of the cricketers as they encourage each other to either catch the ball or throw the ball quickly."
"My favourite view of the Calverley is actually from the canal. There is a certain place where you can see St Wilfrid's Church nestled on the hill, the woods in the foreground...perfect"
"My favourite view of Calverley is the bend in the road which has the cottages and the church side by side. I remember the day I got married in that church every time I see it."
If you have favourite parts of Calverley that you would like to share, please do email them to us info@creativecalverley.co.uk
