Care & Repair England has been awarded Silverdreams funding from Big Lottery (in association with Daily Mail) for a project called Silverlinks to be run at Care & Repair Bristol, Manchester and Leeds. The main aim of Silverlinks is to look at ways to support older people when they are faced with making decisions around housing and care.

In Leeds we are recruiting volunteers who could offer support to an older person who may be facing a life changing decision about where to live or what changes to make to their home to enable them to stay there.

We are looking for volunteers aged 60+ whohave had to make a decision about where to live. Have you had your home adapted or repaired? Or have you downsized or moved into retirement housing? Perhaps you have supported a family member or friend through the decision –making process? If so, would you be interested in being involved with the Silverlinks project?

Spending just a few hours of your time passing on your experiences could make a difference to someone else’s quality of life.

If you have good listening skills and are willing to talk to someone facing a difficult housing decision, then we would be pleased to welcome you to join the Silverlinks team!

If you are interesting in learning more about Silverlinks (or if you know someone who might be interested in becoming involved) please contact Barbara Bailey on (0113) 200 9157 . Email: barbara@crleeds.org

Beanstalk

Literacy charity Beanstalk is looking for volunteers who want to help local children. As a Beanstalk reading helper you will provide a child with the gift of reading, having a life-changing impact on their ability, confidence, and self-esteem.

Each Beanstalk reading helper supports three children and sees each child for two 30 minute sessions a week, during term-time, for three terms. With Beanstalk's support the child's approach to learning and enjoying reading is transformed.

Volunteering as a Beanstalk reading helper is extremely rewarding, makes a lasting difference to children's lives and is a great way to give something back to your local community.

To find out more, or to become a Beanstalk reading helper, call Beanstalk on 01325 315040 or visit http://www.beanstalkcharity.org.uk/reading-helpers
